Diagonal Knit Jacket

Despite it’s structured look, this is a very easy garment to knit. The slant of the stitches of the body are created by increasing at the edges and decreasing in the centre. To start the front or back, knit 4 triangles, as in instructions and join them when the side edges measure half of the desired width of the garment. This makes this a multi-sized pattern, as the lengths of the body and sleeves are also adjusted as you knit.

The garment is edged with 1row of double crochet which is used to also attach the rings and make corresponding chain loops.

Materials:
700-900gr of The Potty Knitter Recycled Yarn, used double.
6/7mm knitting needles.
3 black rings or large buttons
3 stitch markers

Stitch patterns:
The overall multi-coloured effect is achieved by using 2 different shades
of the Potty Knitter's Recycled Yarn or any 8-12ply yarn throughout.
Base pattern – garter stitch- knit every row
Make 1 – in a front row, wrap yarn over needle and in the back row knit this stitch through the back off the stitch, thus twisting it.

Instructions for front and back:
Cast on 3 stitches,
Row 1: knit.
Row 2: knit 1, make 1, knit 1.
Row 3: knit.
Row 4: knit1, make 1, knit to last stitch, make 1, knit 1
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the edges of the triangle measures half of the desired finished width of the garment, finishing with an even-numbered row.
Place on hold and make 3 more triangles in the same manner.
Joining row:
knit across the stitches on needle and the 3 triangles on hold, knitting the last stitch of the first triangle and the first stitch of the next triangle together. You should have an uneven number of stitches with one centre stitch at the back of the garment and the same number of stitches either side of this stitch. Place a marker at the joining stitch of each triangle, which makes the 2nd joint the centre back stitch and the 1st and 3rd joint the side seams.
Row 1:
knit 1, knit 2 together, knit to next marked stitch (side seam), yarn over, knit the marked stitch, yarn over, knit to1 stitch before next marker (back centre), slip this stitch, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over, knit to next marked stitch(side seam), yarn over, knit the marked stitch, yarn over, knit to last 2 stitches, slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over.
Row 2: knit across all stitches, twisting the yarn overs by knitting through the back of the loop.
Repeat the last 2 rows until side edge measures desired length from hem to under arm.
Divide for fronts and back by placing the front stitches on hold.

Back:
Continue to knit, in the same manner, working only 1 yarn over at the side seams, making the marked stitch into the edge stitch, until side edges measure the desired depth of the arm hole.
Cast off 1 stitch at the beginning and end of each row, at the same time continue with the centre decrease every front row. * Continue to decrease in this manner until 3 stitches remain, sip 1, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over.

Front:
Complete each front separately.
Pick up 1 stitch at the armhole side to replace the side seam stitch and work as back to. * Continue to decrease in this manner until enough side stitches have been decreased to give you the desired shoulder width.
Loosely cast off all remaining stitches in next knit row to form the v-neck.

Sleeve:
Cast on 31 stitches, knit 10 rows in base pattern.
Increase 1 stitch each end of this and every 7th row until you have enough stitches to fit the armhole. If needed, continue to knit straight until desired sleeve length is reached,
Cast of all stitches.

Finishing:
Sew up shoulder seam, sew up sleeves, sew sleeves to body, placing the shoulder seam at the middle of the cast-off edge of sleeves. Sew in all ends.

Work 1 row of double crochet across all edges, placing rings where desired and make corresponding chain loops where needed.
