Materials:
100gr. 4ply yarn,
1 set of 5 3mm double pointed needles.
Instructions
given for Ladies sizes 8-10, for other sizes alter bolded stitch numbers and measurements as given in the table:
Cast
on 56 stitches, to avoid a tight edge, cast on exaggeratedly loosely or use a 6-8mm knitting needle for the cast on.
Divide
evenly on 4 of the set of 5 double pointed needles – 14 stitches each, close round.
Knit
3-4 round to establish base or roll and then switch to a knit2, purl2 rib for
between 3-6cm.
Switch
to knit only until leg measures desired length from ankle bone.
Divide
for heel:
Knit
across the 1st needle and the 2nd needle onto 1 needle – 28 stitches, leaving the stitches on
the 3rd and 4th needle at rest.
Knit
as many rows as you have stitches, i.e. 28stitches = 28rows in stocking stitch
(knit right-side rows, purl reverse rows) knitting the first 3 and last 3
stitches in garter stitch.
Turn
heel as follows:
Row1:
Knit18, slip1, knit1, pass the
slipped stitch over, leaving 8 stitches
on left needle, turn.
Row2:
slip1, purl8, purl2 stitches together, leaving 8 stitches on left needle, turn.
Row3:
slip1, knit8, slip1, knit1, pass the slipped stitch over, turn.
Repeat
row 2 and 3, reducing the 8 stitches
left on each side by 1 each row until all the un-knitted stitches on both sides
have been taken up, finishing with a purl row, turn. There are now 10 stitches on the needle.
Next
row: knit10, then, with the same
needle, evenly pick up 14 stitches
from the side of the heel flap – 24
stitches, with a new needle knit across the stitches of the 2nd needle, with another needle knit the
stitches of the 3rd needle.
With the another needle pick up 14
stitches from the other side of the heel flap and knit 5stitches from the 1st needle onto this needle as well.
You
should now have 19st on the 1st
needle, 14st on 2nd and 3rd
needles and 19st on the 4th
needle = 66stitches.
Knit
2 rounds
Next
round: knit16, knit2 together, knit
1; knit across 2nd and 3rd needle; knit1, slip1, knit1,
pass the slipped stitch over, knit 16.
Repeat
the last 3rounds, decreasing every 3rd round until needles 1 and 4
have 14stitches like needle 2 and 3
– 56 stitches.
Continue
to knit straight until foot measurement from back of heel corresponds with the
given size in the table.
Start
toe:
1st
decrease round (for all sizes): knit
to last 3 stitches on needle, knit2 together, knit 1; repeat on next 3 needles.
Repeat
this decrease round at intervals and times given in the table.
You
should now have 8 stitches left – 2 on each needle, break yarn, leaving a 20cm
tail, thread wool needle on tail and pass through these 8 stitches pull tight
and securely sew in tail. Knit another sock in the same manner.
