Carousel Cardigan

Materials:
300gr Brushed Mohair,
One 10mm circular needle 40 cm long, one 10mm circular needle 100cm long

Design notes:
Rows 1 to 28 of this cardigan are knitted back and forth. At row 29 the circle is closed and the wrap is completed in rounds and forms a circle, as shown in the photograph. A number of stitches are rested in row 32 which are later picked up to knit the sleeves from the shoulder down using the short circular needle.

Stitch patterns:
The centre disc is knitted in standard garter stitch, eg. knit every row. The rest of the circle is knitted in Garter stitch in rounds and as there are no return rows this is achieved by knitting 1 round and purling the next and the stockinette sleeves are achieved by knitting every round.

Using the short needle, cast on 9 stitches. For the rest of the circle the short needle is used to knit back and forth. You can choose to knit this with normal straight needles, if you have them on hand.

Row 36: Knit.
Repeat rows 35 and 36 – 15 times or until desired length, knitting the last 4
rounds in garter stitch to form a hem
Cast off very, very loosely, or use a 20mm+ needle.

Sleeves:

With short circular needles pick up rested sts below and above waste yarn,
pull out this yarn, join yarn and knit 1 round, picking up 2 extra stitches at each
end, 50 st, placing marker at beg of round.
Knit 20 rounds,
Round 21: knit first 2 sts together and pass the last st of previous round over this st, thus decreasing 2st.
Repeat this decrease every 12th row - 6 times.
Knit to desired length, cast off.

Finishing:

Sew up seam of centre circle, sew in ends.

Special finishing note:

The open, lacy effect of the use of relatively large needles will benefit from a traditional lace finishing stretch. This is achieved by completely wetting the
garment by submerging it in water, removing the water by rolling the garment between 2 bath towels and then stretching it to shape onto carpet in a warm
place and leaving it to dry completely.
